Do you watch over your heart?

We live in a society that is driven by what is considered healthy. As a result, it is difficult to ignore all the advice that we are bombarded with on a daily basis. So, the other day I was thinking of the health of my heart, and I had these thoughts.

Firstly, as we focus on our heart, we will be shaped by what is in it. A heart that is good will reflect what is good, and the opposite is true as well. I believe this is something that most of us can not only agree upon, but have witnessed.

Consequently, it is our heart and its influence that then has the capacity to change us as it matures and grows, and it is this continued maturity that works to increase our understanding. This understanding then grows from a place that has eternal advantage and perspective, giving us the broader view of godliness.

Lastly, when we then focus outside of ourselves, keeping connection with our maturing heart, we will be a powerful tool for the Lord. For now our eyes will be focused on Him, drawing strength and confidence from what is true and everlasting. No longer will we be looking for self-gratification, as our primary purpose, but one where we are of service to God and value to others.

On an added note, I do recommend taking good care of our physical heart, too!

Proverbs 4:23 NIV Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
