Do you better relate to I, we, us, or you?

I know this is an odd question, but stick with me and I will explain.

The other day a friend and I were talking regarding my writing style, and she brought up a valid point. Her point was that when I am writing I will often start out with I, interjecting you and we, perhaps ending with us.

I am a very flexible individual who is open to critiquing, and that being the case, I was immediately engaged to hear what she had to say.

Her question to me was "Have you considered you may loose the impact that your writing can make on the reader by shifting too often between I, you, we and us?" After giving it much thought, and returning to several posts, I think I need to clarify why I do what I do.

First, everything that I write must first make sense to me before I can expect anyone else to relate to it. This is very important for you to know because the Lord is speaking to me about all of these topics first. I am using examples of what I can relate to before I give them over to you for consideration. Secondly, I never want to imply that you need fixing. All of that is between you and God.

When I shift to you it is my way of asking if this is something that might be personally beneficial to your walk. Then I do shift to we and often end with us. This is because at this point I reason that we have been moving along together.

Lastly, we are 'Believing Women in Conversation' and that is why I attempt to write as if you and I were sitting together. What I envision is one day actually sitting with you, and please understand that the idea of this is compelling. I do see us together sharing our stories and edifying each other as we honor God.

Thanks for faithfully reading and thanks to my trusted friend for asking me the question!
