Are we looking for confirmation in the wrong places when we make decisions?

I think that we can all agree that we want to make good decisions, for we know that making bad decisions has overreaching consequences. Sometimes we know that the choice that we are making is not the best for us, but we seem unable to choose what is right. We may even realize that we will suffer if we make this decision, but we can’t help ourselves. Our compulsion is to do it even when we know we will regret it later.

Taking it a step further is when we look for confirmation in the decision that we know we are going to make anyway. We may think that if we draw in some like- minded people we will have their approval in this decision, and that we will feel better later on down the road. Perhaps we assume that our disappointment won’t be quite as bad if we can look back and feel that others were in agreement.

This whole scenario plays out as deception. We deceive ourselves when we refuse to see the truth that is staring us right back in the face, a truth that told us long ago that we were overlooking a lie.

Here is what we know is true. If we don’t see it the way God sees it, then we are choosing to disregard truth for our own interpretation. At the end of the day, the only confirmation that is reliable is what is based on God’s truth. Our position must be in line with how God sees things. When we see things from His perspective we will have absolute confirmation that our decisions will be right.
