Yesterday, I heard an awesome teaching about truth. It was powerful and not something that was open for debate. You are familiar with, “Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God?” If we break down this statement, there is no where to go but to God. In a court of law we are being asked to testify to truth based on God’s Word. His is a trusted measurement, which tells me that it is flawless.
We must measure all truth by the Word of God. It must be our standard, and no substitute can be used in its place. A half truth can never measure up to God’s word, as it will be all truth or no truth. In studying the armor of God that Paul speaks to us about in Ephesians, it is clear that we start with truth. Before any of the other weapons of warfare can make sense we must grid ourselves in truth. It is where we will start and where we will end.
Our definition of truth, when it aligns itself with God, will always keep us safe. We will take shelter in truth for it will never leave us wanting, but will always deliver everything that we need. God’s truth is reliable, complete, and without compromise. Wisdom tells us to run to truth and not away from it.
Psalm 91:1-4 CSB The one who lives under the protection of the Most High dwells in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say concerning the Lord, who is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust: He himself will rescue you from the bird trap, from the destructive plague. He will cover you with his feathers; you will take refuge under his wings. His faithfulness will be a protective shield.
