Do we walk as the redeemed?

I am reading John, specifically the encounter that Jesus had with Nicodemus, where He told him that it was necessary to be born again of the Spirit if you want to be a child of God. Can you imagine what this educated man of the Jewish faith thought when he heard such a thing? I am sure that he believed that he already was a child of God, one of the many that had been promised to Abraham, and yet Jesus taught deeper revelation.

We know that Nicodemus responded with a question that exclaimed his unbelief that anyone could ever be born again. Perhaps it was because of his knowledge of the Torah that such a concept was beyond his understanding.

For the simple Jew, who was not educated, it was just a question of seeing and believing. They saw what Jesus was doing, heard the words that He spoke, and for many it was enough to bring them to salvation. This makes me think how easy it is for a child to come to the saving grace of Jesus. They don’t question what they don’t fully comprehend. They just choose to believe.

All those that choose to believe on the face value of what the Holy Spirit is revealing are not simple. They just choose not to make it complicated and to follow their hearts. The words of Jesus are enough of a testimony for them to believe that what those words declare is truth from the very throne room of God.

John 20:29 CSB Jesus said, “Because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe.”

Are people you know speaking from what they do not know?

Does God ever ask us to settle for second best?
