How was your day?

This past Friday I spent all day with my husband, and yet at the end of it he asked me how my day was. I answered that it was a good day. Within minutes of answering, I realized that although we were together the entire day he was asking for my perspective on the day. What I further realized is that while we may be with others, even doing the same things, we are still looking through our own personal lens.

The point is that we are all unique in the way that we look at the world. Although, we can be very similar and like minded, we will always be influenced by our personal life experiences. In other words, everyone whether knowingly or unknowingly will always put their slant on things. We all draw from our own perspective as it is impossible to keep ourselves out of the mix. Clearly we always seem to want to make it about us.

Many years ago a woman shared how she asked her husband his advice on what she was wearing and he replied, “I wouldn’t wear it.” This was perfect on many levels. He was not only giving his opinion, it was an opinion based on what he would choose for himself. Once again, the husband was inserting himself into the equation before he gave his opinion. I have often giggled to myself about this scenario if on occasion I have asked Jack for his opinion on what I am wearing.

For believers we have the Holy Spirit giving us the Father’s perspective, the Father’s truth according to His Word, and yet often we still try to put our slant on it. This can and does become dangerous if we put our interpretation first and God second.

What we do know is that the renewing of our mind as it is washed by God’s Word is key to walking in the fruitfulness of our salvation. I believe that our heavenly Father desires that we would use the wisdom of Christ as our standard as we view this world through His lens and with His focus.

Ephesians 1:18-19 CSB I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the glorious riches of His inheritance among the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of His power to us who believe, according to the working of His vast strength.

Have you ever thought how you would spend your last day on earth?

Have you found the rhythm of the simple things?
