Who do you seek for encouragement?

I believe that there is not a person living who does not need encouragement. Everyone needs encouragement in times of need, or even when life is good. There are words that can be said to make a situation tolerable, or even better. A great day can be made better when someone notices and speaks words of life. After all, that is what we do when we encourage. We speak life into a place where it appears to be absent.

In the aftermath of an election that for the believer remains unsettled in the natural, these can be unsettling times as we wait for the full manifestation of God’s will to be revealed. We all like it when things go according to how we think they should go, and when they do not, we can get discouraged. Yet, we know that it is just a matter of holding the line in faith

Who do you seek when you need to be encouraged? My answer is simple. It must begin with me. If I can’t find my peace in God’s Word and allow it to speak life, then I certainly can’t help anyone else. I can be used by God to bring encouragement to others, but not until I myself understand that I must seek God and His help first. At the end of the day I can’t depend on anyone else to carry me. I must do as David did in Ziglag. David in his distress sought to encourage himself, when many were against him, knowing that with God he would get what he needed.

As believers we have such an advantage over those who are not children of God. When they are empty and in need of filling, a word of encouragement from a well meaning friend can only take them so far, but with God all that we will ever need is available to us. Encouragement, love, counsel. comfort, direction, and much more.

Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.

Samuel 30:6 But David encouraged himself in the Lord.

Romans 15:4 For whatever was written in the past was written for our instruction, so that we may have hope through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures.
