Why ask questions?

Today I am writing my eighth post, and once again I am asking a question. I have always been driven to ask questions. This is because I want to know truth, and not truth that is from my perspective, but God's. It must always come back to His word and what that word declares to be true. For that reason, I ask questions to get to those answers. Answers that bring a deeper more meaningful understanding to what I seek.

The other day I posted that I met a woman who was looking for help with a taxi. What I did not mention in the post was that I asked her a simple straightfoward question, "Why are you here?" Not here in this parking lot, but here in this situation. I was proposing the question and she had the freedom to respond in whatever way she wanted. In the end she chose to answer indirectly.

Questions are a starting point to get from A to B, and hopefully on to C. For me I feel certain that with each question I ask, God is faithful to answer. There are over 3,300 questions in the Bible. Below are four of my favorites.

Genesis 3:9  Where are you? This is the first question asked by God in the Bible addressed to Adam and Eve. I really like this one because I always want to know where I am,  and be ready to give an account.

Isaiah 6:8 Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?  Isaiah answers, "Here I am. Send me." I want my response to always be yes and amen when He asks me to do something, whether large or small.

Matthew 16:15 Who do you say I am?  An important question Jesus directed to Peter, and one I love because I want to be ever ready to declare boldly who Jesus is.

Mark 8:36 What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? This one helps me keep my heart right as I make choices.

And questions I might ask:

What lesson is your life teaching?

What role are you being called into today?

What do you do best?

How high are you willing to go?

What makes you sing?

Are you expecting to walk in victory?

Where has the time gone?
