Passion is the first word that comes to mind when I think of this question. I know that when I am passionate about something in my life it is what I want to do more than anything else. It is actively present in my mind, and what I chase after. This is what passion means to me. The zeal is my enthusiastic diligence to pursue what is vital to my spiritual life.
At some point we were told that as human beings we are spirit, soul, and body. If you are like me you want to be a healthy threesome, but putting in extra time at the gym to keep our bodies healthy will not insure that our spirit, or our soul, will be equally fit. Keeping our spiritual health in check will require a commitment that will exceed other avenues of fitness, as it will require spending time, and much effort to pour God’s Word into our minds to feed our spirit.
When we feed our spiritual cravings with God’s food we will not only be healthy spiritually, but that health will overflow into the other parts of our body. When this happens we will want to keep our bodies fit as they are temples of the Holy Spirit, we will want to ensure that we have a healthy emotional perspective, and we will want our spiritual life to reflect a desire to keep it prospering.
So, how do we keep our spiritual zeal alive? We do whatever it takes to keep moving towards God in our relationship with Him, we spend time with other believers who are also pressing into the things of God, and we rejoice in knowing that we are loved by the King!
