The Bible says that we are a peculiar people, and I agree! We are certainly different in our thinking, our future expectations, and our belief in life transformation because of Who we follow. It may not always be easy being different, even when you are surrounded by others similar to you, you remain uniquely you.
Today I had a conversation with a woman that I know who is bubbly and exudes an effervescent attitude towards life. She is a believer, but in our conversation it became obvious that she and I had dissimilar views regarding an element of God's word. Both of us believing women with a different perspective on the roles women can and cannot participate in within the church setting. I can say it made for a lively interesting conversation.
We will meet people throughout our lives that will have conflicting opinions to ours, but it is how we handle the differences that will be important. There is a word in Scripture that instructs us to be prepared to give an account for what we believe, when we are asked. While many choose to align themselves in one place, we will reject that position and take a stand that sets us apart. The basic truths that we hold fast to will never make us mainstream.
Outside of being one of the masses, our differences can make us valuable in the Kingdom of God. The privilege for us should be in standing out in a crowd, for within that crowd there may be that one person who is looking for different. When that person is looking for different I want to be found, and I believe so do you.
Joshua 1:9 NIV "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."
