Is your determination causing you stress ?

I don’t think I know a woman who is not determined. Determination and women just seem to go together naturally. I believe it is likely in our genetic makeup to be so. It is probably why when a family member is ill they shut down, but when we get ill we keep going. You know the drill!

It means our determination helps us recover more quickly, and we are able to pick up seemingly undeterred wherever we left off. Why do we assume we can do it all? Because everyone is always telling us we can as they sing about it in songs, and pass it along as if gospel truth. My mother was an example, and I see it in my sisters and daughters. It is like we don’t allow ourselves to falter because we are holding up past generations of women who had the same mindset. We are in essence carrying on tradition.

I know I am getting a bit carried away here, but one door seems to open another, and another. Starting this post with the idea of applauding us for our determination now has me wanting to say, “it’s ok to slow down and not always be the overachiever.” Somehow this deep sense of responsibility is what we seem to pass onto our daughters at a young age, and maybe we are not even fully aware that we are doing it.

I am fully invested in the Proverbs woman, as you know, but even this woman had to stop and smell the roses on occasion. I believe she became very good at delegating when necessary, so we should allow ourselves the same freedom. Maybe the true strength of this woman is in her ability to teach others without suffering burnout.

My granddaughter introduced me to a song ‘Let it go’ from a Disney movie a couple of years ago, and I would say it applies here. Good advice for us all!
