How do you fuel your faith?

If you ask me how I fuel my body, I will without hesitation give you a litany of things that accomplish this effectively for me. I love coffee, so it will be on the top of my list, and lets not forget anything leafy. I am a salad eater from way back, which is funny. Growing up I really only occasionally remember an iceberg salad on the table, but now I can't get enough of all kinds. From spinach, to radicchio, to escarole, red leaf lettuce, to watercress, to endive, to chard, and on and on. I'll stop here, because you see the pattern. Well, let me just add one more important element of fueling the body. Protein! We all need protein to sustain us and fuel our muscles and tissues. I may prefer to eat like a rabbit, but I need the meat!

Our faith also needs fuel to keep it going strong, and building new muscle. We need to have what it will take to get us through times of scarcity, let alone famine. Sometimes the famine is not even ours, but another who needs our strength and example. Either way, we need to spiritually be strong in the Lord, so that we can be useful to ourselves and others. I say others, because we are not meant to do life on our own. We need others as much as they need us, and sharing our faith with someone who needs a shot of hope is all important.

So, what do I do to fuel my faith? I seek out God, His word, His ways, and I pray. Paul says we are to pray without ceasing for good reason. Then I exercise the spiritual insight that flows from these encounters, sharing with friends and family, and I ask them to share what the Lord has shown them.  I now have additional fuel to build that much need spiritual muscle. Muscle that will keep me going in the right direction, even when a battle rages all around.

1 Peter 2:2-3 NIV Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.
