Have you considered why you do what you do?

There are several ways that I could answer this question. I could say that I do what I do because I was educated in this field, or I might say it is strictly because it was the only option that I felt was open to me at the time, or because I enjoy the financial benefits.

Yet, neither is the reason I want to be doing what I am doing. I want to be acting upon passion and compassion as I seek to be fulfilled. So, I may safely say that I do what I do because I want to feel fulfilled in my life. Recognizing that personal fulfillment will require my time and commitment, and yet I want more than personal satisfaction.  My desire is that what I choose to do will make a difference to others. A difference that will be rewarding for all of us because I chose to get involved in a particular direction.

At this point in my life I choose to do certain things based on gifts and talents. I recognize that by walking in those areas, I am far more effective in what I do, therefore, I can be a greater asset.

As I write and think this question through it occurs to me that I really don't want to be doing anything that I do not feel passionate about, or that brings me closer to who I am becoming. I need to feel that I am consistently face to face with my calling.

I recognize this personal need to fully operate in my calling, knowing I will pursue it with determination and joy. The determination will get me where I need to be, and the joy will be a natural outflow of that pursuit.

We all need to be doing what we feel led to do, but it is in understanding why we do what we do, that will confirm if we are in the right place or not.

Psalm 90:17 NIV May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us- yes, establish the work of our hands.
