I have no idea where this phrase came from, but I have applauded its inference for many years. It is something that I am quick to recognize in others, and claim for myself. It allows us to see where something is going, and to decide if we are willing to go as well!
I see lots of value in being able to see how things relate, because once we are able to connect the dots we can help others to do the same.
What if you were the only one who got the joke, who understood the plot of a book, who sensed what direction a person's story was going? Now imagine you are the only one who understands the power of prayer, or that a powerful testimony has the ability to change the trajectory of a person's life, or that the Holy Spirit will dramatically give someone comfort when they need it most.
When we can read God's Word and see where we personally fit into the greater picture, we are spiritually connecting dots. When we then help others to see what we have seen, we are carrying the gospel forward. This is a vital part of the sanctification process as we come to understand God's will for our life, and how our life feeds into God's greater purpose.
With the guidance of the Holy Spirit we will never be in the dark, but in tune with what we need to know, and see. The Holy Spirit will unlock the meaning of Scripture, giving it life and breath. With our spiritual eyes, He then brings an understanding of God's precepts, taking us from one precept to the next.
There are mysteries that will remain hidden until we meet the Lord, but the Bible is our instruction manual. A manual that enables us to understand and apply what is critical to our walk.
John 16:14 NKJV He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.
