Are you good at pacing yourself?

My mother-in-law was the perfect example of someone who knew the value of pacing herself. She lived well into her 90's and I never saw her deviate from this practice. The fact that she was able to keep herself continually moving forward was a testament to many who witnessed her tenacity. As a result, she was successful in what she set out to do.

Margaret was a woman who did accomplish what she saw as important in her life. My impression was always that she steadily moved forward. Whether she was taking small or big steps, the steps themselves were proof of progress.

Sometimes we are called to go to a place that will require, not only commitment, but a steady forward motion. The motion itself is what really matters, not the speed or the amount of ground covered. It is about setting your pace and maintaining momentum. In fact, I just recently heard a young woman declare that if you are not moving forward then you might as well consider yourself stagnant.

When God called Abraham out of his country He did not give him a fixed destination. What God did promise was that He would show Abraham the place along the way. Abraham was obedient, and left what he knew, for a place unknown at the age of 75.

I believe my mother-in-law Margaret would say that she finished the race that was set before her. As an onlooker for many years, I would say that I agree.

Proverbs 22:6 NIV Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.

Don't I know you?

Where do we start?
