I believe this is a great question that gets right at the heart of why we do what we do. Tomorrow is the first day of a Bible study, in my neighborhood, that has been meeting for 16 years. The women have committed to study God’s Word in this community, setting an example to many of their faithfulness. When I thought of all of the women who will gather tomorrow I thought of one important question, “Why are you here?” Below is a short list of my thoughts, but let me inject the word purpose in there, because it is what drives us all these days.
Are you here because the Holy Spirit has given you a nudge?
Are you here because you want more of God?
Are you here because you love these women and want to be part of this group?
Are you here seeking fellowship and community?
There are no wrong answers, but clearly something or Someone has kept these busy women coming year after year. It is truly inspiring to see how they function as a team for the betterment of everyone. In answering this question, I have some more thoughts that come to mind.
You might say that you are here because you know that there is something available for you.
You might say that it is because you bring something unique to the table ( your experiences, and personal testimonies that encourage others, your sense of humor, etc).
You might say that you are here because you have something of yourself to give, something that those around you need that only you can supply.
You might say that you are here to share your story. A story that needs to be told, and you are the only one who can tell it.
This is what I believe to be true. Within this group are amazing women who have something to share, and who also need that something that the other women in this room bring.
When I think of the many women in the Bible who came to the well to gather water each day, who also came for each other, I believe it is the same here. For the women in Scripture, it may have been one of the most cherished parts of their day, as they shared fellowship and community at the well, but this is exactly what these women are doing, too. They are doing life together, because being together makes life better!
