Do you listen to God’s messengers?

Four years ago I was on an airplane heading to San Diego. It was a trip that I was quite excited about, as I had heard lots of good things about the city, and I was meeting my husband who was already there on business. So, all around it was going to be a great few days.

As I was sitting on the plane in Atlanta, just starting to relax, one of the flight attendants approached me with a question. What she asked me was both flattering and unexpected. She asked if I was an author? When I said that I was not she looked at me quite perplexed, as she was certain that she had seen my face on the cover of a book. As soon as she left, her colleague came over to say that she too had seen the book cover, and was I sure. It was so funny.

This is not the first time that I have had someone give me a word in regard to a physical book. A few years earlier as I approached a friend, the first thing she said to me was that she saw my face on a book.

My experience with such things is that they should not be discounted, even if at the time there is no tangible evidence to support what has been said. God can and will often speak through other people. What is interesting is that often those people who are speaking prophetically, are actually unaware that they are giving a word from God. When the women on the fight to San Diego saw my face on a book it was a word of encouragement. They had no idea of knowing that I was working on a book, but that word was enough to give me the boost that I needed. At the time my friend said she saw my face on a book, the idea of writing a book was just beginning to percolate, but her encouragement was what I needed to take hold of that stirring.

God will send people to speak into our lives in what initially may appear as insignificant, however, if we examine the evidence we may see that there is truth to support what is being said. At the time of my flight to San Diego, I was writing with the intention of seeing my work published, but at the same time I was also questioning whether a book was in my future. My friends insight, all those years before, was a confirming word that got me heading in the direction of a book, and so I began to write in earnest. On both of these occasions these individuals were speaking into what God had already purposed in my heart.

If someone brings a random word that really does not line up with what you know in your own heart to have merit, then it may not be a reality. But, at the same time the Lord may be calling you into a new thing, a thing that has not occurred to you, or that you may have thought would never be a possibility. It is at these times that we need to ask the Holy Spirit for discernment as we look to see if this word is from God.

As of today, I do not have a physical book with my face on it, but I continue to head in that direction. With God, nothing is impossible and He will bring to fruition all that He promises.

Luke 1:37 NKJV “For with God nothing will be impossible.”
