Are you in need of a retreat?

When I think of the numerous retreats that are touted as restorative getaways, I immediately recall what I have personally experienced. For me, the retreats I attended were awesome, exactly what I needed at the time, but not always the relaxing scenario that I see described across those pages.

When I retreat I know that something is required of me, and it will be more than choosing food, or my next spa treatment. It will be about surrender, dependency and trust. Three biggies that demand commitment, transparency, and courage. What quickly comes to mind is that phrase, "I need a vacation from my vacation!"

Sometimes to really experience a retreat, we need to make the conscious decision to withdraw to a private place, a quiet place, a secure place, even if that place is in the next room. I am someone who gets a lot of things settled while I am driving, so I often get in my car and head towards the mountains when I need a quick recharge. In doing this, I will be listening for the Holy Spirit to speak to me along the way. My retreat may be short, but I know that I will come away feeling more rested than I did when I began my drive.

At the end of the day, your retreat is between you and God. You acknowledge that you are in need, and the Lord is there to deliver. Your purpose will center around where you are personally, your questions, and what you need to understand about where you find yourself. In my opinion, we need to come expectant and prepared to experience our small slice of heaven, regardless of how long or short.

Matthew 11:28 NIV "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."

What is the age of your thinking?

Are you afraid?
