I was talking to a friend recently who brought up the subject of our age being connected to our thinking. The further we discussed this topic, the more interested I became, and it made me want to explore the idea.
We have all heard young at heart used to describe someone older, who has a way of thinking that is not especially in keeping with their age. I would imagine that we all know people who fit this description. Someone who is motivated, and determined to do what will bring themselves and others joy, without allowing limitations to get in the way.
My husband has an uncle who is precisely this individual. At the age of 94 he is full steam ahead with all kinds of projects, unafraid to try new things, and a delight to be around. He is imaginative, kind, and is someone who lives in the present, even though he has great stories from the past.
When I think of uncle Stanley I have so many things that I love about him, but one of the things I love the best is his outward display of faith. He is a man who loves God, and who is quick to acknowledge, not only his dependency on God, but his thankfulness for all the good Lord has done for him.
For some of us, not allowing the cares of this world to drag us down, takes a considerable amount of well-spent effort. It requires an attitude that reflects love, forgiveness, and goodness, just to mention a few.
I believe I know an important element to getting, and keeping, an ageless mindset. It becomes achievable when we live out of the fruit of the Spirit.
Galatians 5:22-23 NKJV But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
