Is your inheritance bringing you abundance today?

There are many people who will at some point in their life receive an inheritance. Some of those will be expected, but a fair number will be a surprise to the recipients. Either way, the inheritance will likely bring about a change in their current circumstances.

As believers we often quote Scripture declaring our Father owns the cattle on a thousands hills, and not just creatures of the field, but every animal of the forest. Furthermore, our Father who owns all of creation has given all authority over heaven and earth to Jesus, who in turn declares that we are co-heirs.

Imagine, if you can, what kind of an inheritance we are speaking about. It is the kind that is beyond any earthy value that we would put on it, as it is immeasurable! Galatians 4:6-7 says, “And because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying Abba, Father! So you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then God has made you an heir.” This Scripture gives me the liberty to call my heavenly Father, Abba, and this gives me permission to crawl right up in His lap!

Knowing I am an heir means that I have freedom to live a life that proclaims my standing and my status as a child of the King. I can walk confidently with peace knowing that today is guaranteed, I can pursue God-sized adventures knowing that my paths are made straight, and that the promises of God will bring blessings to all my days. In other words, all of the blessings that are upon Jesus are upon me as well.

One day the Lord told me that I have a trust fund. I thought this was an amazing analogy to what we consider an earthly trust fund, only mine, and yours, is from our Father. The Father has set it up in such a way that we have continual access with no fear that it will ever run out. So, with all of this in mind, do you think that you and I are living the life of abundance that is available to us? I think that this question alone is worth pursuing, and if we are not using the inheritance that is our promise, we better get spending!

Ephesians 1:11-12 CSB In Him we have received an inheritance, because we were pre-destined according to the plan of the One who works out everything in agreement with the purpose of His will, so that we who had already put our hope in Christ might bring praise in His glory.
