I heard a great quote from Tony Evans who happens to be Pricilla Shire’s father. It went something like this, “Why are you trying to remodel the walls of Jericho, when God wants them torn down?” When I heard this it just struck me as being so relevant.
How many times do we assume that the walls that God has taken down, the same walls that were preventing us from moving forward the first time, will be ok the second time around. I did not hear what Pastor Tony taught about regarding the remodeling, but I am pretty sure that I can figure it out.
If something was not working for us the first time around, just putting fresh mortar and different paint is not going to help. Essentially, they are still going to be the same restricting walls that kept us from doing all that God saw as available to us.
So, instead of taking what may be an easier path, perhaps rebuilding on those same familiar foundations, let’s be open to new construction. Building on the same footprint of those past walls is simply rebuilding the same walls. If God saw the necessity of taking them down, then I believe that His wish is that they remain down! We just need to be in agreement with God, knowing that we can trust Him. He will always keep us safer than any walls that are of our own making!
