Recently, while watching a faith based program, I heard this question asked of the main character. The question brought a pause, and then a response that indicated that this person indeed felt a weariness on occasion.
This program was purely for Christian entertainment. It was interesting, but not completely Biblical. That being said, I thought this question deserved some attention.
Do we as believers ever feel like our salvation is a burden? We know that it is a gift from God to us, but do we ever feel like we are struggling to fully understand the workings of the gift?
This is what I felt the question was getting at for the man in the movie. He was trying to figure out God’s plan for his life, and how it all fit together. Seemingly, salvation had ceased being the driving force that caused him to live a life that reflected his position as a child of God, and instead it became a tool that the enemy used against him.
This character is just an actor playing a part in a movie, but we are living a real life. How are we seeing our salvation? Has our understanding grown from when we first got saved?
The other day my husband and I were talking about the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Our conclusion was that without His presence in our lives to actively teach us what we need to know, our perception of our new life will not be completely right. In other words, without the revelatory truth that only the Spirit of God brings, we will have some understanding, but not all understanding. We may still be looking through those old lenses, not seeing the new life that we now have with the sharp contrast that distinguishes the old from the new. Clearly, our new life will never be totally in focus without the Holy Spirit.
Salvation is the starting point of our reconciliation back to our heavenly Father. As we grow in our understanding of what it means to be reconciled back to our Creator, there is rejoicing and there is freedom!
John 16:13-14 CSB “When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth. For He will not speak on His own, but He will speak whatever He hears. He will also declare to you what is to come. He will glorify Me, because He will take from what is mine and declare it to you.
