Are you letting someone else do your thinking?

I know you may think that this is a silly question, but hear me out. Have you even gotten so passionately moved that you felt like you could not contain yourself? This is what I experienced yesterday. By the time I got home I was over the top concerned about the revelation that I know the Holy Spirit was giving me during the day.

It seemed that everywhere I went, and just about every person I encountered was speaking out of misinformation. While they were speaking it sounded good, but that still small voice, a voice that you and I are very attuned to hearing, was pointing our error. And the real concern for me was that they believed the error. These individuals in the marketplace were speaking from what they either have been told, read, or perhaps experienced. The worry for me is that if they are speaking out of experience, then they are using a flawed template, or model.

The concern is that the flawed template has become part of their belief system and the deception has become their truth. Without the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth, revealing this fact to them they will believe what looks good in their own eyes. The danger of this is that the flesh will always take the easy way, especially when it comes to obedience to God’s Word.

I know that we are in an age of information overload. There is just so much that is being thrown at us that we must be very astute to check our sources. If what we are being told does not line up with God’s Word, then we can be assured that it is not His Word. There are many out there who are claiming to speak the truth, but are taking God’s Word and perverting it to appeal to the masses. The hope is that we will come along side what is being taught and not question its validity.

There is a new gym that just opened very close to my home. I went there yesterday to see if it is a place that would work for me. I will give you my first impression. Walking in and seeing flatscreen televisions lining the entire wall was not for me. I felt like it was attacking my senses in such a way that would make it impossible to work out and not be distracted by everything on those screens. I know that I may be in the minority here, but you see what I mean. A peaceful workout is not what I will get in this gym. What I will get is everything that is going on simultaneously somewhere on the planet vying for my attention.

As believers we must filter what we are being told to think, and use as our standard how God thinks. The only way we can do this is by God’s Spirit. The Holy Spirit will give us discernment as we navigate these days. We must then trust and obey, refusing to take a lie and trying to make it into a truth!

Matthew 24:4-5 CSB Jesus replied to them; “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and they will deceive many.

1John 4:2-3 CSB This is how you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God.

Are we keeping our circles too small?
