Do we prosper from what we have learned?

The other day I was having coffee with a a close friend and she was telling me about a conference that she will be attending in a couple of months. This friend of mine is very discerning about going, doing, and seeking knowledge that others are teaching. As we were talking, she shared the Scripture that I felt spoke perfectly into our responsibility as we seek knowledge.

The Scripture is in Timothy and it speaks of always learning but never coming to the knowledge of truth. This is a word that we really must take seriously. I know that it certainly caused me to pause and consider.

There is so much that is out there that is good, but even the good needs to be digested. We need to be women that take what we have learned and put it into action. For me it is simple! It is about taking the truth that we know and using it to connect the dots. In other words, we are building a strong foundation of truth that we can draw upon.

The warning in this Scripture is one where we never seem to be able to assimilate the knowledge into our life because we are always seeking more and more. I know that we are all about knowing and understanding God’s Word. That is a given! The danger is if we can’t take that knowledge, having come to an understanding of its truth, and we can’t share it with others because we are confused by its meaning.

Or to take this a step further, it tells me that a surface understanding of an important truth in God’s Word can actually get us into trouble. Without understanding the depth and breath of what a particular Scripture is saying, we may not only misinterpret what is being taught but may not recognize error when someone else is speaking.

Psalm 119:34 CSB Help me understand your instruction, and I will obey it and follow it with all my heart.

Luke 24:45 NKJV And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.

Are we trusting the Holy Spirit's Urim and Thummim?

Are we making it all about Jesus?
