Jack and I are on another one of our road trips. Yesterday as we were driving along a worship song was playing and I was struck by this line, “You didn’t want heaven without us.” It immediately started me thinking of how we belong to God, but actually not only do we belong to God, we are His kind.
In the Book of Genesis God creates the heavens and the earth, He creates every living creature, and He creates mankind. This entire Scripture in Genesis makes everything very clear to me. We are part of God’s creation, but we are not vegetable kind, we are not animal kind, we are God kind. Made in the image of God, and made for the express purpose to know and love God, just as He loves us.
The line in the song, “You didn’t want heaven without us” rings true to me every time I hear it. We are God kind and God wants His kind with Him.
Genesis 1:11-12 CSB Then God said, “Let the earth produce vegetation: seed— bearing plants and fruit with seed in it according to their kinds.” And it was so. The earth produced vegetation: seed—bearing plants according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
Genesis 1:21 CSB So God created the large sea—creatures and every living creature that moves and swarms in the water, according to their kinds. He also created every winged creature according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
Genesis 1:26 CSB Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness. They will rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the livestock, the whole earth, and the creatures that crawl on the earth”
Genesis 1:27 CSB So God created man in His own image; He created him in the image of God; He created them male and female.
