Have you become an expert at mining for gold?

We live not far from Dahlonega, a north Georgia town where in 1829 they experienced the first gold rush. The town claims to be located on the top of the largest gold deposits found east of the Mississippi River, according to their website, and they maintain that the gold was first discovered by accident.

I am not suggesting we start mining for gold that is tangible, but I am suggesting we need to be more mindful of the gold in people that is beyond value. It is this gold that can often be laying dormant, beneath the surface for an entire lifetime, until that person, or someone else, recognizes that it is time to do a bit of mining.

Think how often you and I meet women who do not recognize their value. Instead, of living out of their full potential, and worth, they are surviving on a meager portion. They have access to abundance, but they are only utilizing a portion of that richness and fullness.

So, what can we do? First off, we can open our eyes and see who is before us. Then, we can take the time to speak life into that person. Give them a piece of gold that they may not even see. Often the Lord will show me how beautiful a woman’s skin is, and how their skin radiates the inner beauty that is just waiting to be mined. This small bit of acknowledgment is enough to open up further conversation. If nothing else, I have declared to her that I see you, and you are beautiful!

1 Peter 3:3-4 Your adornment must not be merely external—with interweaving and elaborate knotting of the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or (being superficially preoccupied with) dressing in expensive clothes; but let it be ( the inner beauty of) the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality and unfading charm of a gentle and peaceful spirit, (one that is calm and self—controlled, not overanxious, but serene and spiritually mature) which is very precious in the slight of God.
