Easter Sunday was most likely a day spent with family and friends, and had its beginning with a church service. They say that it is highly probable that Easter will bring people out to hear a message perhaps more than any other religious holiday. It is interesting that a sermon on the Resurrection is what will draw believers, those who have not been in regular attendance, or non-believers to hear a word that will challenge and change their life. We come for exactly that, to be challenged and to be changed, to hear the message of hope.
The church my husband and I attend was filled with both regulars and visitors Sunday morning, and it was a blessing to be able to worship together as we celebrated the Resurrection of Jesus. It is over two thousand years ago that Jesus walked on the earth and rose from the dead, but our witness to that event is what binds us together as Christians.
Our pastor gave the message of hope, while asking us to consider how the Resurrection plays out for us personally, and how the reality of what you believe becomes the basis of your life. How when you walk in agreement with eternal life, you will measure earthly struggles against that agreement.
The Resurrection becomes the standard, and from that powerful perspective we will witness the newness of hope in its proper place.
I want to remember these important points, for I want to base choices that I make on their eternal value, and not on what looks good or seems right in the moment.
1 John 5:11-13 NKJ
And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.
