I think that sometimes we truly are surprised when we have our prayers answered, and yet it is exactly what we were praying God would do. We are delighted and in awe, but somehow reluctant to acknowledge that they have actually been answered. Instead, we might attribute the answer to be more circumstantial. We know that something has changed for us, but we may not be certain that God is directly involved. Involved because He is loving and kind, yes, but is He really responsible?
Then there is the other scenaro. For many of us it is easier to dismiss a prayer that has not been answered, choosing to rationalize, rather than face disappointed. Explaining it away in terms of His ways, His timing, and His will.
For years I lived with a condition that caused intermittent blindness due to involuntary muscle spasms in my face and neck, although not life threatening, it was highly debilitating. It was roughly seven years, but one day I knew the Lord was going to heal and restore what had been lost. During those years I had many people pray such heartfelt and sincere prayers for me. I can tell you that I wanted to be healed, not only for me, but for them! I wanted their faith impacted as they witnessed the power of prayer, knowing this would validate what we know to be true.
It can become disheartening when you know what God's word says about healing, provision, and so many other needs, and yet you continue to wait for the manifestation. It becomes easy to question yourself, even searching for areas of your life where you might be in disobedience, but truthfully there are somethings that will remain a mystery this side of heaven.
Essentially, when you have done your part, all that is left is to stand. Stand in agreement with God. Stand, stand, stand, and don't stop believing or praying.
Romans 12:12 ESV Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
