Are humble beginnings worthy of our effort?

We all have to start somewhere and often that somewhere can be remotely obscure, lacking the significance that we may think that we have earned. When I refer to earned it is not meant to imply a prideful way of thinking, but simply that we may think that our experience has proven that we have payed our dues. Those dues should be enough to move us to the front of the class, or so we like to imagine.

The Scripture that comes to mind is when Jesus shares the parable of the workers in the vineyard. Regardless, of when the workers began in the vineyard, they were all paid the same wage at the end of the day. Jesus understood the value of an individual and demonstrated that His measurement was unlike what we would assume to be true. One who understands equality is not a respecter of persons, but desires all to have opportunities. Jesus asked those that were still standing idle at the end of day if they wanted to work. When they acknowledged that they did, He did not hesitate to bring them in.

Such is the kingdom of God, where all are significant to the Lord, and He alone can and will set the standard. God will use any opportunity to bring those on the outside into his kingdom of grace.

Matthew 19:30 NLT But many who are the greatest now will be least important then, and those who seem least important now will be the greatest then.
