I think that most of us have occassionally felt that we had to eat everything on our plate. This may have even been a childhood requirement before we could leave the table. I grew up being taught to politely ask "may I be excused," and then prepared myself for the all too familiar response, "as long as you've eaten everything on your plate." I loved my parents, but did not like this answer. Last night my youngest granddaughter replied quickly with "I'm full" when she was clearly done eating, and yet her plate showed otherwise.
My thoughts on this subject were shaped by my own experiences. I do not believe that asking a person to consume everything presented to them is a healthy practice. It feels more like force feeding, of which I am strongly opposed.
Instead, I want to present an individual with a reasonable portion, and then let them decide when they have had enough. This allows them the freedom to push away with no restraints imposed upon them.
My part is to discern when enough is enough, stop expecting them to consume more, and be pleased with what they have swallowed.
It is the Holy Spirit who will speak into what is personally relevant to us whether it be physical or spiritual food. He is so good!
