For those of you who have been reading my blog for some time now, you get that I am drawn to the woman in Proverbs. She just seems to be someone that I am always wanting to understand on a deeper level. Today as I was thinking of this woman I decided to look to the preceding Scripture that made mention of both King Lemuel and his mother.
What I read was what this woman of wisdom was instructing her son what to do regarding his kingship. Imploring him to choose his relationships carefully, to be sober minded, to be true to his decrees, to bring justice to the oppressed, to be cognizant of the poor and needy, to speak up for those with no voice, to judge righteously, to defend the cause of the enslaved, and the disadvantaged.
Honestly, the more I read of this woman, who is behind the Proverbs woman, the more I like her. She is someone that clearly walks in confidence and purpose. What I know is that you cannot speak out of what you don’t know or live. You cannot be a person giving this degree of instruction and not be doing it out of personal experience.
There is much that is clear to me. This woman of quality and virtue from thousands of years ago is very much needed today! And, if we have the privilege to meet such a woman, we remember her, for it is not everyday that we see an example of such character.
This woman of character lives in a place of peace. She is surefooted and confident in her abilities as she listens, acts accordingly, then speaks words of both healing and restoration.
Here is the good news. She is out there among us, and we merely need to be on the look out for her!
Proverbs 4:5-9 CSB Get wisdom, get understanding; don’t forget or turn away from the words from my mouth. Don’t abandon wisdom, and she will watch over you; love her, and she will guard you. Wisdom is supreme- so get wisdom. And whatever else you get, get understanding. Cherish her, and she will exalt you; if you embrace her, she will honor you. She will place a garland of favor on your head; she will give you a crown of beauty.
