Yesterday was a day spent traveling throughout the northeast, once again my daughter was with me, and we were on the lookout for meaningful encounters. When we started out in the morning we knew that God would bring certain people across our paths, and we were not disappointed. What you realize is that people all over the world are walking out their days, and you just happen to come into contact with them for a brief time.
It is during this brief time that you get to speak life into total strangers with kind words, often leaving them better than you found them. Always remembering that when you gage your walk according to God’s word you have an opportunity to show love and compassion. Simple gestures of kindness go a long way in showing the love that Jesus spoke so adamantly about when He walked the earth.
As I was walking on a sidewalk yesterday afternoon in a busy town in Vermont, I met a small woman face to face. She was pondering how to cross the street safely. It gave me great pleasure in helping this sweet woman cross that street. I was left with a smile and so was she.
I often remind myself of a point which is simple, but important. It is easy to love when others return our love with love, but this is still His command even when they do not love us back. God’s word must always be our plumb line regardless of the behavior of others.
Romans 12:2 CSB Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.
