Are we allowing demographics to keep us apart?

I live outside of a major city in the southeastern part of the United States, and yesterday I had an opportunity to spend the day with a sweet friend who is extremely knowledgeable about this particular urban hot spot. It was so enjoyable to experience her favorite areas, and taste some awesome food. On a side note, I am still craving some rolls that we had at dinner!

What I became very aware of regarding this city is how the population seems to be heading in a distinct direction. This city has become a hub for young people who are seeking individual expression in the arts, design, and their shared lifestyle.

I found it interesting to be around such energy and enthusiasm, but I also felt that I was on the outside of their world. This partly may have been because they have experienced judgement from individuals in my age group, and they assumed that I would be the same. Either way, it was something that I noticed, but doubt that my young friend did, precisely since she is young.

It is sad to think that a population having shared characteristics would be closed off to a generation the age of their parents and grandparents. There is so much that needs to be shared between us that can only be done when we come together in love.

Obviously, this was just my perception during the many encounters that we had, but we all know when a person intentionally avoids eye contact. Truthfully, we can never be certain how a person has been treated in the past, but we can take a stand determined that we will not be someone who adds to their pain. For me, it is simple. I want to be the exception, and not the rule, so for this reason I will be making a trip downtown again very soon!

Ephesians 4:1-2 CSB Therefore I, the prisoner in the Lord, urge you to live worthy of the calling you have received, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

1 Peter 4:8 CSB Above all, maintain constant love for one another, since love covers a multitude of sins.

May I be allowed to speak to who you are?

Do we understand the law of faith?
