Last night I witnessed an amazing group of young girls worship God through dance. These girls are part of a ballet company that honors God intentionally by how they posture themselves gracefully, how their costumes bring dignity to their bodies, and how their music glorifies Jesus.
This is the third year that our granddaughter has studied ballet with this company, and I have been moved each year by the beauty with which the girls present themselves. It is clear to see that they have dedicated an enormous amount of time, and effort throughout the year.
As I watched the many performances I reflected how one day these young girls will be women. Although, I don’t know all the girls, I do know one, and I can already tell what kind of woman she will be. Even writing this I can’t hold back the tears from flowing, as I think of her steadfast commitment to God at the age of 8. A commitment that started when she was so small. She is still so young, and yet there is a maturity in her understanding of what relationship with God is all about.
This young girl is a reflection of her mother. She worships God through dance, but her relationship with Him started long before she ever danced. It was when she made the choice to model the relationship she saw in her home. Her identity in Christ was established from that place when she freely declared that her heart was His.
This is what is clear to me. We bring who we are into what we do. For my granddaughter, it is her love of God that flows naturally from that relationship into everything she does, including how she expresses herself in dance. It was my honor to watch her, and all the girls dance. And yet, I know that it was their heavenly Father that they truly intended to honor.
There was a single declaration on the very bottom of the dance program. It said, “We seek to dance for His Glory.”
Psalm 150: 3-6 CSB Praise Him with trumpet blast; praise Him with harp and lyre. Praise Him with tambourine and dance; praise Him with flute and strings. Praise Him with resounding cymbals; praise Him with clashing cymbals. Let everything that breathes praise the Lord. Hallelujah!
