There is a lot of opportunity to pray and seek God when you are away from your normal surroundings. This has been my experience as we have driven hour after hour, mile after mile, from east to west, and from north to south. What has become clear to me is that God can speak clearly when we are in a place where we are not distracted by much.
Three years ago when we felt the release to camp out west it was really about enjoying ourselves, seeing new places, and yes meeting people. However, this year it became very clear to me that our real purpose to being on the road were the people who we would encounter. In other words, it was more about conversations than getting to spectacular sights, taking pictures, or having personal time. Our focus had clearly shifted.
The other morning our breakfast became a three hour discussion with a couple traveling from Phoenix. We got to know each other as we shared stories, and testified to the goodness of God in our lives. As we sat for all those hours it was clear that what we were doing was more important than whatever else we had planned.
It was interesting how four people speaking of God drew attention from others who knew we were strangers, and yet we seemed so familiar with each other. God gets the glory as His believers speak openly about His presence in their lives.
My perspective is simple. If God changes our assignment then we must be aware of this shift, and be ready to change direction with Him. We shall never be disappointed when we move with God!
Luke 10:1 CSB After this, the Lord appointed seventy-two others, and He sent them ahead of Him in pairs to every town and place where He himself was about to go.
