Have you noticed a shift in how you are seeing the things of this world? The other day I spent the day with my husband in a very desirable city.
Tell anyone that you are going to Santa Fe and people get excited. The excitement will come from people who have either been there, or want to go. It just seems everyone loves Santa Fe, and I can understand why. It truly is an amazing town with distinctive architecture, interesting people, amazing art, and talented artisans doing everything imaginable.
I appreciate fine things. When I hold jewelry that is of high quality, or see furniture that has been made by someone who really is a craftsman, it is exciting. These are just two examples, but you understand what I mean. It is hard to resist the beautiful things of this world, and yet I will admit that even those things are growing dim.
When I think of the many places on this earth that are beyond words, I am in awe. In awe of God’s handiwork, absolutely, but even as I look at the magnificence of creation I am reminded of God’s promise. In 1 Corinthians 2:9 it says, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined the things that God has prepared for those who love Him.”
Things and places of this world grow dim as we move closer to knowing God, and understanding our purpose while here on earth. This is not something that we should count as a loss, or as unusual. Instead we should embrace our spiritual maturity. A maturity that has been pulling us towards an eternal perspective.
Hebrews 12:1-2 CSB Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every hindrance and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith.
